What is scar camouflage permanent makeup?

Through the process of micropigmentation, artists can conceal and completely hide stretch marks and scars by depositing specially formulated, colour matched skin safe pigments into the skin's scar tissue or discoloured areas so that the damaged area's colour blends in with the surrounding skin. There will undoubtedly be improvement, with almost one hundred percent concealment in as little as two sessions. We stick with one brand of pigment ink for optimum results, colour pay off and stability. Please keep in mind that the stretch mark tattoo cover up method just makes stretch marks, scarring and discolouration appear far less noticeable; it does not eliminate them completely.

Who can get scar camouflage?

Anyone over the age of 18 is eligible for scar camouflage SPMU treatment, male or female, as long as you are overall in good health. It is best to perform over scar tissue or stretch marks etc at least a year after the scar or discolouration’s formation. The general guideline is that the scar must be older than six months before you contemplate having it concealed with micropigmentation and must no longer be red or pink. It's advisable to wait until the scar stops changing colour to enquire. The treatment is fantastic for; self harm scars, surgery scars, stretch marks, plastic surgery scars, cleft palate scars, injury scars, congenital anomalies and vitiligo.

Can I tan and have skin camouflage? What happens If I use fake tan or sunbathe with skin camouflage?

In order for the semi-permanent skin camouflage treatment to be effective, your skin must not be tanned, however if you religiously use sunless tanning equipment/products and want to match to this shade you will need to be willing to sign a waiver stating this. This is necessary since the colour matched pigments for skin camouflage must be mixed to match your natural skin tone. Your treated scar will seem darker than the surrounding skin if your tan fades, resulting in an unattractive mismatch, and vice-versa. If you do not always use sunless tanning techniques do not book this treatment until after one month of returning from holiday or active sunbathing. Do not book this treatment less than 3 weeks before your holiday. When it comes to tanning in the sun, the ‘tattooed’ area will not tan along with your natural skin, however the area will look a lot more uniform and much less noticeable than having the contrast from your previous pale white scar. Did you know - stretch marks do not tan either!

Does the scar camouflage treatment hurt?

We will make sure to offer you the option to apply numbing cream if your scarring is sensitive or you are nervous due to never having skin/scar camouflage, SPMU or tattoos. This is not really required as the pain rating on more sensitive clients is 2/10 and for more tolerant people it is virtually painless.

How long does scar camouflage last?

Scar camouflaging of the skin lasts about 2 years. You can opt for top up treatments to maintain the longeivity and look of your treatment.

Is there any aftercare for scar camouflage?

Yes. Your skin will be red and raised after treatement which is completely normal and part of the process. Your skin will start to develop a protective scab following your treatment. Exact healed results will not be visible for 3-4 weeks after your treatment however the redness will reduce a few days after treatment and then the treated area will become darker than your skin. Do not panic. This protective layer needs to shed before the pigment we applied becomes clear. After 12 hours you can remove the wrap and wash the treated area with warm water without any alcohol-based soap. Completely blot dry using just patting motions. Don't scrub. Do not rub. Moisture is a favourite of bacteria, so make sure the skin is absolutely dry then apply a thin layer of your healing ointment. The day after - apply balm, Aquaphor or Bepanthem 2-3x a day for a week, when washing avoid using soap on the area. Keep your fingers away from the pigmented region that is healing unless they are clean and do not pick or scratch the treated area. Infection may occur if the treated area is touched with dirty hands, dirty cotton swabs, used goods, or other objects. Use a fresh cotton swab to contact the area if necessary.

Is there anything to avoid after scar camouflage treatment?

No hot yoga, steam rooms, saunas, swimming in chlorinated pools or the ocean, or exposing the treated region to sunlight until the camouflaged area has healed. The pigment will fade in the light. Till the treated area has healed, avoid applying makeup there. You run the risk of infecting the micropigmentation or harming it in another way. No direct sun or sun tanning beds for 4 weeks. Do not apply any SPF, lotion, creams or retinols - anything other than healing ointment - until the area is completely healed. You will not be able to have laser on the area.

Is there any downtime?

No. You can go straight back to work or your day-to-day activities, it is advisable to avoid vigorous exercise for a few days so keep it light.

How much does scar camouflage cost, what is stretch mark camouflage tattoo price?

Depending on the size of the surface area being treated the cost of skin camouflage micropigmentation varies, but a session (e.g stomach stretch marks, double hip stretch marks) typically costs around £375, and very small singular areas (like a face lift scar) from £90. It is quick and easy to receive an exact figure and we can even do this virtually through images in your FREE consultation! Do I need a patch test for scar camouflage?

Yes. It is ideal for you to have a patch test at least 24 hours prior. If you insist on not having one you must be willing to sign a waiver!
