What Is Dark Lip Neutralisation?

Dark lip neutralisation is an advanced and more skillful type of lip blushing. This is for people with uneven lip colours, lip hyperpigmentation, cool deep blue or purple looking lips and also brown toned lips. With the assistance of warm toned pigment shades, we can neutralise cool tones and lighten the darkness of the lips. It is crucial you choose a practitioner who is skilled in colour theory for any form of lip neutralisation! We are essentially cancelling and balancing out colours using science and art combined, to leave you with an illusion of naturally light pigment in the lip. After neutralising, if you wish to add a target colour after the lips have been colour corrected to a peach or light pink - you then can have this target shade applied. People typically have darker, melanin rich lips for two reasons. The first factor is ethnic lips aka genetics. The second is some form of lip trauma, such as an injury, a lack of vitamins, a hormonal imbalance,  smoking, etc. It typically takes one or two additional treatments to get satisfactory results with dark lip neutralisation, especially with darker contrasted lips.

What Is Lip Blush?

Lip blush tattooing is a semi-permanent cosmetic procedure we perform in Bedford, Bedfordshire, that utilizes a single mechanized needle, rapid hand movements, and a meticulous sprinkling technique to introduce your favourite colour or favourite lipstick shade (mimicked) and then pigmented ink into the lips. The effects of lip blushing typically endure for approximately 2-3 years. Following the initial healing phase, which lasts 7 to 14 days, your lips should fully recover, with the most favorable outcomes manifesting within 4 weeks. As is the case with any tattooing procedure, the long-term appearance of your lips hinges largely on your post-treatment care regimen. In addition to serving the Bedford area, our services extend to the surrounding regions, but not limited to - Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire, London, and Cambridgeshire.

Will It Hurt And What Should I Expect Immediately After Lip Blush Treatment?

The pain level for most is around 2/10, at most you will feel mild but tolerable discomfort close to the cupids bow area. For the first couple of days following the lip blushing procedure, you should expect your lips to be somewhat puffy and swollen, but not a painful type. Most swelling is mild to moderate however some people swell to the extreme. We will use the most gentle configuration of needle to ensure swelling and discomfort are kept at a minimum. For the purpose of ensuring that you don't experience any pain throughout the treatment, we use a numbing cream. You might feel a little bother with the swelling sensation in the area as the numbing effect starts to wear off. Applying cold packs wrapped in fresh kitchen roll or fabric to your lips will lessen these effects. The tattooing of the lip leaves behind microscopic wounds that set off an inflammatory response in your body. Your lips will consequently start to swell immediately during or following your treatment.

What Is The Aftercare Procedure For Lip Blush And Lip Neutralisation?

Leave your lips alone for the first day of your treatment. The day after your treatment wash your lips with water and apply hydrating, fragrance free balm or ointment 3 times a day. Approximately two days following your lip blushing tattoo, the swelling should start to decrease. The lip blush colour will become slightly duller and darker than it was immediately following the treatment by day three. Maintaining twice-daily washing and moisturising of the lips is essential during this time. Within three to four days of your lip blushing appointment, lips will begin to peel and flake. 'Scabs' start to develop in this phase when the microscopic punctures heal. This stage of recovery is quite similar to how a conventional tattoo heals. Never remove the scabs, despite how alluring the thought may be. Picking off the skin might cause the colour of the lip blush to fade or the area to become patchy. This activity, like with other scabs, can cause the area to reopen, making you more vulnerable to infections. Let the dry skin flakes naturally fall off while a fresh layer of healing skin appears underneath. At this point, keeping your lips moisturised is essential. The stages of peeling can take up to a week to eradicate completely - and then your soft lips will be back!

Why Is My Lip Blush So Bright And Vibrant Immediately After Treatment?

Your healed lip colour is likely to be 30 to 50% lighter than when you came out of the clinic chair. The colour of ink you choose, deposits in to the lips much more vibrantly than what it settles down to, there is a major difference in shade in just one day. The final settled shade becomes visible once the flakiness starts to fade away about 5 to 6 days following the treatment. If the pigment temporarily "disappears" before reappearing a few days or weeks later, don't worry, this is normal. As the skin heals, it becomes thicker, briefly hiding the ink. The ink will return to your chosen lip pigment shade once the skin has had time to heal itself and the colour has settled - this is why we wait 4-6 weeks before scheduling any touch ups. Before heading outside, apply a lip balm with SPF to protect the skin from the sun and prevent the colour from fading. Additionally, by doing this, you may prevent the fine lines and wrinkles on your lips from appearing, which will be even more noticeable when you blush your lips. Regular exfoliation can hasten the fading of your lip blushing tattoo, even though it is authorised after healing. The longevity of the treatment may also be hampered by smoking, oily skin, or an iron deficiency.

What To Avoid During The Healing Period Of Lip Blush Or Neutralisation?

Lip blushing leaves invisible wounds that are susceptible to infection, just like any other tattoo. After lip blushing, avoid vigorous exercise, swimming, saunas, and any other activity that makes you heavily sweat out for at least two weeks. Your skin is vulnerable to microorganisms that could cause a bacterial or fungal infections due to the increased dampness and moisture particles. After treatment, stay away from hot beverages, spicy foods, and soups. If you can, try to use a straw for your drinks and place food directly in your mouth. Avoid alcohol and foods that are acidic, greasy, or salty if at all feasible in the first 24 hours. While your lips are healing, refrain from using whitening strips on your teeth. Avoid laser treatments, chemical peels, and direct sun exposure for at least 2 weeks. Refrain from lipstick, gloss and lip scrubs during the flaking stage too.

Who Is Not Eligible For Lip Blush Or Lip Neutralisation?

People who are currently on blood thinners, have persistent cold sores, or have dry lips are often ineligible for lip blushing treatments. These disorders can increase your risk of contracting an infection from the blushing and frequently signify a weakened immune system. Seasonal variables, such as chilly winter temperatures or prolonged sun exposure during the warmer months, can also result in chapped lips. It is better to wait out the weather in this situation and give your lips time to rehydrate before scheduling an appointment. Lip blushing and other permanent cosmetic procedures should be avoided by women who are pregnant or nursing. During these times, infections are more likely to occur, and hormonal changes may have an impact on how the pigment appears on your skin. If you are prone to cold sores or have had them in the past we will strongly recommended you seek out a prescription of Aciclovir or something of the likes to take a few days pre and post procedure so that you do not have an outbreak. Lip blush can activate a dormant coldsore virus and cause huge implications on your lip blush.
